*Basic Facts you should know:
Costa Rica is a beautiful country with a large combination of regions. The country can easily be understood if we divide it up into six different regions. Every website devoted to Costa Rica will tell you something different, but I found the country best explained when it was divided up. There is the North Pacific, Central Pacific, South Pacific, North Central, Central Valley, and Caribbean region.
The total area is 50,895 sq kilometers. The capital is San Jose with a total population of around 3 million. Its location is Central America, in-between Nicaragua and Panama (between 8 & 11 degrees north of the equator). More then 90% of Costa Ricans are Roman Catholic. There is no winter or summer as such and most regions have a rainy season from May to November and a dry season from December to April. Annual rainfall averages 100 inches nationwide with some mountainous regions getting as much as 25 feet on exposed eastern slopes. Temperature is more a matter of elevation than location with a mean of around 72 degrees in the Central Valley, 82 degrees on the Atlantic coast and 89 degrees on the Pacific coast.
